The government has a plan to extend the ongoing lockdown or restriction on public movement countrywide for another week due to the presence of an Indian variant of coronavirus or Covid-19.
State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain informed journalists in this regard on Tuesday afternoon.
He said that the Indian variant was found in the country and it is a matter of concern.
To contain the spread of infection, the decision will be revealed on May 16, Farhad Hossain said.
The lockdown was announced on April 5 this year due to the increase in corona infections. Although a loose lockdown was observed till April 13, the government declared a ‘severe lockdown’ from April 14 as the infection increased further.

Besides, 1,230 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours raising the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 7,76,257.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the update of the country’s coronavirus situation issuing a press release this afternoon.
